Willkommen and benvenuta!

This is my travel journal or in the German language my Reisebericht, which contains 7 blog posts, 7 mini-sagas, a preliminary reflection, an independent research itinerary, a literature review/ research paper, and a final reflection. The Reisebericht encompasses my entire COR Capstone project in the "Lives of the Great Composers" course at Elon University. The interdisciplinary COR Capstone course lasted for the entire month of January wherein my class and I traveled abroad to Salzburg and Vienna in Austria, as well as Venice and Milan in Italy. While abroad, my class and I were allotted four different independent research days with one being in each city we visited. This course has a specific emphasis on interdisciplinary research relating to classical music. Therefore, the research that I complete throughout this COR Capstone project will focus on politics with specific relation to classical music as I am a political science major at Elon University.

Throughout my research, I will be analyzing how the Third Reich, or in other words the Nazi regime, not only oppressed the Jewish religion but specifically annihilated Jewish music with leanings toward Enlightenment ideals such as religious tolerance and the separation of church and state. However, before I am able to research how the Third Reich oppressed the Jewish faith and musicality, I will first need to investigate whether composers from the 17th, 18th, and early 19th centuries supported or opposed the Enlightenment ideals of religious tolerance and separation of church and state. Then, I will end my research by conveying how the Third Reich banned or propagandized certain musical compositions throughout political legislation. I have enjoyed completing this COR Capstone project as I believe it’s a good balance between formal research and informal reflection or exploration.
